Climbing Maslows Mountain Needs and Understanding Motivation

Let's go Mountain Climbing... Are You Ready? ... But what happens if the mountain you are climbing suddenly BLOWS UP!!?

Let's go mountain climbing! No, not that kind of mountain climbing...  Hey, this is Scott Johnson with your inspiration and thought for the day.

What kind of mountain climbing am I talking about? I'm talking about Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and how it relates to what motivates us.

Now listen closely because I am about to tip a major sacred cow that most believe how all human behavior is suppose to be.

All humanity is climbing Mt. Maslow and don't even know it.

Let me explain Psychologist Abraham Maslow believed that our needs are arranged in a hierarchy. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is represented by a pyramid and shows that we first satisfy our biological needs such as air, water, sex and safety. As we begin to meet these lower needs we eventually seek to meet our other needs such as our social needs.

Our needs for things like love, belonging, self esteem, recognition and eventually self actualization where we achieve our highest potential! Now some people get really good at climbing Maslow's mountain and some don't. That is what Dr. William Glasser, founder of reality therapy believed.

Dr. Glasser said, we all learn to choose behaviors we believe will satisfy these needs. Yes, he used the word "choose behaviors!" We choose behaviors in inappropriate ways like stealing, lying, cheating and addictions.

We also choose all those crazy making behaviors our world tends to make excuses for. Behaviors like hating, depressing and blaming. Remember what I said in an earlier video, a thirsty man will drink anything if he thinks and believes it will satisfy his thirst.

Other people learn to choose more appropriate behaviors to get through life and as a result are able to climb the Maslow's mountain higher and higher, until self actualization is Achieved! The problem is that the mountain is always shaking and rumbling and this creates chaos for those who are on the mountain trying to reach the top. Fractured marriages and relationships, broken dreams and disappointments as well as uncertainty of the world around us.

But... What if it was never suppose to be this way and what if there was a much better way to the top of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and this thing called self actualization? What if there was somebody else who climbed that mountain on your behalf, on my behalf. Not so you could experience self actualization but so that you could experience God actualization!

That's right God stepping into human history through Jesus Christ. Jesus scaled that mountain with skill and perfection for 33 years. You see, he did what was no man or woman could do on this planet.

You can claim Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Teresa self actualized but if you asked them, they would tell you that they had not. Only Jesus achieved the impossible. And get this, not only did he climbed that mountain for you and for me. He died on that mountain for the punishment that belonged to every person on this plant for all time.

The Bible tells us that Jesus "being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of humanity. It goes on to say that He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." This is called the great exchange! He stepped into humanity so that you and I could step into Him and the victory he achieved on our behalf! We now simply embrace and step into this victory He achieved what He did on our behalf!

Stop Emotional Chaos – How To Experience Sustained Motivation

Hey this is Scott Johnson with your inspiration and thought for the day. Now, if you haven't subscribed to my channel, yet click on the red button and if you're on YouTube or like share and comment. If you are on Facebook.

Today, I want to ask you a question, what is that motivates you?  What drives you, and maybe more importantly, what happened to the motivation you once had?"

The word itself leads us to some very important questions. The word motivation has within it a very important word.... The word Motive

What is your motive? Motivation come out of a persons motive!

As a child, I can still remember waking up on those early summer mornings ready to enjoy the day. What was the motivation? For my brother and I to spend the entire day digging as deep a hole as possible. From early morning to late in the day as the sun began to set you could find us in the back of the house with shovels in hand. It took us a week but we achieved what we set out to do, dig a 7 foot deep hole where we were having to send one bucket of dirt at a time to the top to be emptied.

A few years later the motive behind our motivation changed. Now it was to see how we could skip middle school classes without getting caught or how my brother and I could develop a system for sneaking into movie theaters with no one the wiser.

So, I guess that story means we can have selfish based motives as well as selfless motives. One type of motivation describes a life that is coming from a place of sense of emptiness the other out of a place of fullness.

For example this cup of water is half full... I become aware of this and now am motivated to find water to fill my own feelings of lack. The emptiness we feel could be insecurities, wrong beliefs about where happiness comes from. The other example is about approaching life from a place of fullness. An awareness that I lack nothing. Jesus calls it a well that springs up on the inside of a person that not only satisfies the thirst of a person but becomes a river or fountain that never goes dry.

Let me quote that verse for you.

But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life.” Jo. 4:14

You see the thirst humanity has that comes from emptiness drives a person to continually drink from other people's cups. Approval, love, affection, applause, all are great things for us to experience but they can also become a drug that chains us to the opinions of others. Not only was Jesus and example of a life that was based on "selflessness" which really means his cup was full and complete but He gives us this same life that is full and running over, a sense of completeness, fulfillment and ownership where it concerns our life's journey here on the Earth.

Our life on Earth should be one of fullness a deep sense of being complete and whole. Would you like to experience this in your own life in greater depth?

Get Rid of Fear and Anxiety

Hey this is Scott Johnson with your inspiration and thought for the day. Now, if you haven't subscribed to my channel, yet click on the red button and if you're on YouTube or like share and comment. If you are on Facebook. Today, I wanna talk with you about how to eradicate fear out of your life! You see, I believe, fear should be listed as public enemy number one. Why? Well, because fear has caused more devastation in the lives of people than anything else I know. We have all at one level or another experienced fear at work in our own lives.

Maybe you've heard of the acronym for fear. F.E.A.R.

False Education Appearing Real. Stick with me and I'll tell you the story of one young missionaries battle and overcome the distorted view about what stopped him from getting results in his life and ministry on the mission field. It really is the tipping point for anyone who is dealing with fear in their life. Now quite possibly you may be facing emotional assault right now in your life, because of the issues that you're facing. On the the other hand, you may not even be aware of the subversive nature of fear that may be affecting your life, your health and, yes, your future!

You see, fear comes in many many forms. Things like insecurity inferiority, poor self-image all of these are rooted in fear. You see as a young person, I struggled with insecurity low self esteem always on the outside looking in on every conversation that I was involved in. I felt out of place. As a young person. It cause me to act out and connect with others who were also struggling in their life. The bible says that fear has torment and indeed it does. If you felt the torment of fear you know exactly what I'm talking about, sleepless nights, the heavy weight of hopelessness and the suffocating feelings of despair all work to destroy your health and your future. Literally fear, I believe is a thief that keeps you paralyzed were concerns the decisions that you need to make about your life. It literally steals your ambition and initiative that keeps people from living their dreams and taking action. Think about it, the future has been robbed of the unreleased potential of those who were stopped from living their dreams all because of fear.

The good news is that there is a remedy to fear and no it doesn't come in a pill box. This is not a prescription that comes from a doctor and yes, you can eradicate fear out of your life. Would you like to know the one antidote that will eradicate fear?

The same Bible verse that tells us fear has torment also says this perfect love cast out fear and it's not just any kind of love. The true, an antidote is unconditional love, that kind of love only comes from God himself. What this is saying is, if we are in fear, it is because we somehow lack an understanding of God's unconditional love for us.

You might be saying to me Scott, you know I know God loves me. I know those scriptures I single songs about how much God loves me, but I still have fear in my life. Well, let me share with you. There have been times in my own life where you know I thought I understood God's love as well. But unfortunately I discovered that I had, yes a wrong understanding of God and his love for my life. It was literally a distorted understanding that I've learned from what I was hearing from other people.

Let me explain by telling us A story that I heard about a young missionary who, after traveling from church to church you know he's preaching. He had his interpreter next to him and but he became discouraged because he wasn't having any results in his Ministry. It seems that the people just weren't getting the message.

He would have altar calls for those who wanted to receive Christ as Savior, but no one really respond. He would preach on God's willingness to heal them and he would want to pray and have them come forward, but it seems like no one was hearing anything. He had to say. Well, as time went on a seasoned missionary who served in the mission field for many years, he came and he sat in on one of his services.

Because of his years of service on the mission field he had come to know the local dialect. He understood the language he understood every word that has been spoken by that interpreter well. After the service He took the young minister aside and he spoke to him privately. This is what he said, did you know that everything you've been preaching was contradicted by your interpreter as it turned out.

The interpreter was not in agreement with anything that was being preached. Instead, what he was doing is was taking it upon himself to distort everything that he heard preached so when the young missionary told the people that God was a loving and merciful God and that that is why he sent his son Jesus to the world instead with People, God is an angry at them. It would punish them for all their evil ways. when the missionary told the people that it was God's will to heal to set them, to deliver them instead, the interpreter would tell them it's God's will that calamity in sickness and poverty. You see this is god's way of testing. You no wonder this missionary didn't get any results the people where hearing him preach were not hearing the truth. Instead we're hearing the distortion of the truth as a result their perception of God, which is completely based on a distortion of the truth. You see, I had many ideas about God that just wasn't so. I really didn't think God loved me unconditionally. It's hard to do this. If you know you've been told all your life that God is an angry God or his mad at you.

Sometimes God is angry with me sometimes he's happy with me sometimes he blesses me other times he's cursing me. Today he forgives the me all my sins tomorrow, though. I'm responsible for my own sins. Sound familiar? But then I discovered that God wasn't schizophrenic. He love me not based on my own performance, but was based on the fact of what Jesus provided for me.

You see all my sins were placed on him past present and future! Why is unconditional You'll love the remedy to fear? Think about because we avoid those we think we owe a debt to. I want to help you are eradicate fear out of your life and what I want to do is send you a free copy of my new book Shattering Toxic Beliefs About God Discovering God's Love For You.

What is Leadership?

What is Leadership? Understanding What Servant Leadership Is

Most people are looking for leadership or they have a secret desire to be a leader themselves. This is because they don't understand that they already have the capacity of leadership on the inside of them and some wrong conclusions about what leadership really is.

It really comes down to completely wrong definitions to how our culture and society understands leadership. Here are some things leadership is not.

  •  True Leadership is not necessarily your boss at work!
  • True Leadership is not based by how many people you are in charge
  • True Leadership is not how big of a tribe you have that is following you.

The real truth, most people who say they are leaders are actually controllers who really don't understand the definition I am about to give you.

The true definition of leadership is when you discover your gift, your unique voice to the world and you serve that gift as a solution to solve the problems around you.

From this definition you can begin to see that every person was born to lead. Why? Because every person has built in capacity. When God created birds to fly, he gave them the capacity on the inside of them. Birds do not become fliers; they were born with capability and by acting on that capacity.

You have the capacity to do something very special in the world, I call it your unique voice. You just haven't thought about it in that way and as a result may not be nurturing it.

Trapped in you right now is a hidden leader. You live in a trap set by your environment, by your conditions, by peoples definitions and opinions, by culture and traditions.

But I guarantee you! Leadership is built in you. You just have to discover and nurture it.

My Story Is His Glory – How to share your faith

Everyone has a story that showcases God's intervention in our lives. It is your story that God shines and communicates his

Your life should be a collection of stories! Stories about how you overcame an obstacle. Stories about challenges and victories. Stories about transitional experiences that were meaningful.

how to share my faith by Scott JohnsonThese stories are very powerful when shared correctly. They have the ability to emotionally connect you with people in a powerful way that communicates a larger life lesson and truth to others. Like the time I was walking toward a registration table in a hotel. The person sitting behind the table was sitting in a wheelchair and as I walked toward him I suddenly had a vision.

I literally saw myself walking up to the side of this mans wheelchair and tapping the wheel on the chair and saying these words, "So, when are you going to decide to get out of that thing?" Yes, this really did happen to me and I knew instantly that it was God directing me to talk to this gentleman. You might be wondering at this point if indeed I followed the direction in my vision.

Before I answer that, lets talk about your story.

What was a meaningful experience you had which became a transitional moment in your life. How did God take something that seemed so hopeless and revealed himself to you in a dramatic way?

You see, your story is his glory! It reveals to others how God can step into their situation and circumstance and turn things around for them. What was the larger message of my story in the hotel? Well, let me tell you. As I walked up to the side of this man in a wheelchair, I reached out with my foot and tapped it. I heard myself say those words, "So, when are you going to decide to get out of that thing?"

Fortunately, this man who later introduced himself as David was quite forgiving and did not take offense. I began to share about how God wanted to heal him.

He responded that he was catholic and he knew that it was God's will but it will be in his perfect timing. I went on to share how sometimes get use to situations and problems that we face in life to the point that they become "our normal". I talked with him about how he can use his imagination to create a new normal for his life that he could have faith for.

What happened next changed my life forever. You see up to that point I thought this vision and conversation was about helping this poor guy in the wheelchair.

Let me explain...

While talking with David a voice which I believe was the voice of the Holy Spirit began talking to me. He started out with the exact same words I spoke to David before I tapped the side of his wheelchair. So, Scott... When are you going to decide to get out of your wheelchair of poverty?

At that very moment, I knew this was not about David. I realized I had been "set up" as it where. This was about me and why I was struggling to break free from financial struggle in my life.

I had been sitting in a wheelchair just like David but my wheelchair wasn't built with metal and rubber wheels. My wheelchair was a mindset of poverty that I had become use to and had become normal to me.

This event started me on a transitional journey where I started changing the beliefs of my heart from one of struggle to a mindset of abundance.

Okay, so I have now showcased to you a story which I experienced and demonstrated it in such a way that has a life lesson.

The question I want to ask you is "What is your wheelchair that has stopped you from moving forward?"

Now it is your turn, begin thinking about what meaningful story in your life can you use to share with others. Remember, your story is his glory!
